Why gutters matter so much in the PNW

When gutters overflow, water runs back under the drip edge, soaks the fascia, and eventually rots the decking. Most fascia rot we see started as a clogged downspout three years earlier.

Clean in late spring and late fall

Spring clears pollen, helicopter seeds and shingle granules. Fall clears leaves before the heavy rains.

Check pitch and downspouts

Water should move steadily toward each downspout. Pour a bucket and watch — if it pools, the gutter needs re-pitched or a section is sagging.

Inspect from the ground after every storm

Look for overflow stains on the fascia, drooping sections, and detached hangers. Address small issues before winter.
